The Quilombolas is an identity that is striving to hold on to its traditions and retain the people associated with it, intending to create a strong identity base and ensure that this endangered cultural identity isn’t lost in the cultural war. Living within the Brazilian land and surviving with other dominant cultures, the Quilombolas have a long fight ahead of them, but the biggest challenge is to convince the people that it is not an identity then can just throw away, but rather a reality they shouldn’t let go of. Mary Lorena Kenny attempts a first-hand observational anthropological analysis to understand the impact of the identity on the natives and how they are becoming a part of it or choosing to stay away.
